Welcome Spring Without the Bins

RUGS

There are still nine days before the first official day of spring, but I’ve already started spring-ifying and de-winterizing my house. One of the first things I did was move the coats from the metal hanging thing by the back door to the coat closet right around the corner.

Here in NC, we’ll still grab a jacket, but I needed a visual sign of change and switching out coats for watering cans did the trick. Yep, I use my watering cans weekly no matter what the season, usually I keep them in or on that black cabinet to the right, that’s just out of the frame of that photo above. But in the spring, the pretty watering cans read as decor to me–so I pull them forward and show them off.

I have lots of small changes I make in my home come spring, and hardly any of them require plastic bins full of stuff, 80 degree days or a yard full of blooms. Here are my secrets.

I LOVE those aisles of spring decor, too. But if you’ve hung out here for any amount of time, you know when it comes to having a seasonal home, you NEVER want to start in the stores. Here’s where to begin.

Every time I show that wall next to my backdoor with the metal accordion wall rack people ask about it. I found it at Terrain ages ago. Here’s an amazon version that looks really close. And here’s some similar on Etsy.

I’ve had the bag for a million years and I don’t have a link.

Here’s a link to similar plant misters.

I’ve had my tiny watering can for ages. I think it was a Target find, but I found the larger one a few years ago at an antique mall. I love the imperfection of it. I gathered some favorite watering cans from Etsy if you need some ideas.

For me, I’d rather invest in a cool, vintage watering can that I’ll touch and use 52 weeks out of the year to keep my plants alive, than a fake spring wreath for my front door that I have to pack away 10 months out of the year.

Functional, 356 day decor is always my first choice.

I know not everyone wants a crusty second hand watering can so here are a few really pretty new cans with gorgeous shapes for great prices:

1. Antique Gold from World Market
2. Brass from Target
3. Copper Can from Target
4. Gold from Amazon

PS: I‘m pretty sure you need vases too…
